I wd like to setup a home CCTV network (DIY) so that the monitor will always display the streaming video...What components should I buy? Hi, there are 2 ways to do this.
IP Cameras
----------------1) A wired IP camera can cost as little as £69/£99 each from Panasonic
2) These cameras & your PC would connect to a Router to combine all the components. If the IP cameras have POE (power over ethernet), make sure you buy a switch/router with POE as this is much easier to install. The router or switch conencts to your broadband modem.
3) If you dont have POE on the cameras, you will need to buy a power supply for the cameras
4) Software usually comes with IP cameras that lets you simultaneously watch & record video as well as provide Internet access.

Is it legal in CA to record a conversation without a person's knowledge (i.e., in a store along with video)?
I know of a convenience store in CA where the owners have video surveillance cameras throughout the store. The system also is recording audio and it is known that the system can "zoom in" on low-level conversations. Doesn't the owner have to post a sign notifying customers that audio recording is taking place? Also, what is the recourse for taking legal action? Can someone simply report this to the local police department? Or is there some other agency they would complain to?
The only conversations which cannot be recorded are confidential conversations. A conversation in a retail store open to the public is not confidential.

how can i simultaneously record from two cctv cameras with one receiver?
I have two CCTV cameras with one digital receiver(12 channels) but i have to manually switch between them when i want to record or even watch, can i get a hardware or software with what i would be able to record or watch both cameras simultanously?

thanks mexicanc,I have a desktop so I will be looking in that area.ok, if you have a laptop: NO you don't have a PCI slot. if you have a desktop and you look at the back of the computer, and you see there is an empty area covered with a removable piece of metal, yes it can be installed there. The PCI slot is an empty white slot connector on the motherboard, really close to any of the back of the pc.
The DVR part is nothing but software and normally it comes in a disk with the card that you are going to install on the computer.
so the process is, install the software on the disk, then install the card and let windows recognize the card. Then just start your software and you will be working, the only thing is... you might still have some problems because sometimes you still have to follow some instructions to set the cameras up... and that is proprietary of each brand... but don't worry, normally there is some kind of literature in the same disk that you'll be using to install the card.
