GSM Bug
No CommentsQuite simply GSM bugs are listening devices that use mobile phone networks. This allows the user to dial in to the bug from anywhere in the world, in turn allowing them to listen to any conversations around the unit, without anybody in the vicinity of the bug being aware of this activity.
The GSM bug is an innocent looking device that is basically a unit that includes a miniature microphone, a transmitter and the housing for a SIM card (just like a mobile phone). It's also possible to buy GSM bugs that are disguised as common everyday items, including picture frames, spectacle cases, clock frames and even a potpourri basket!

Using the GSM bug is quite simple, you make a call to the SIM and after a couple of rings you're connected silently and are then able to eavesdrop on any conversations taking place near or around the unit. Other types of GSM bugs are voice activated and will call a preset number (your phone) whenever voices are detected around the unit.

The benefits of this type of surveillance tool over conventional radio transmitters is that rather than have a limited range of several hundred metres, GSM bugs allow conversations to be heard from anywhere around the world.
