Set the ISO setting to around 800-1600 for starters. Then take the photo when the stage lighting is shing on the subject. You have to do some practice shots and be sure to carefull support the camera and lens to avoid camera shake causing blur. Be sure that the shutter speed is set at about 1/250 or perhaps 1/125 and the aperature is wide open.

Nikon's D40 has been a truly great performer in the photography market. Its rise to the top of the market in the cheap DSLR market is due to the value that buyers felt they got when buying. It truly was a wonderful camera for beginning DSLR buyers. You can still get a D40, but they are no longer being manufactured, so the supply will run out before too long.
The Nikon D3000 has now been released, and it is already making its presence known in the camera market. There have been major upgrades from the D40, most notably from a 6.1 megapixel sensor in the D40 to 10.2 megapixels in the D3000. There have also been technology upgrades in the LCD, the image processing engine, and auto focus modes. Overall, cameras are getting "smarter" with each release. So it is becoming easier to take flawless photos when selecting the right scene mode. At the time of this article, the user rating at Amazon.com is perfect. Not one reviewer has listed a negative about their new D3000.
Canon's direct competition to the D3000 is the Canon Rebel XSi (aka 450D). They have very similar specifications and features, but the Rebel XSi has been on the market for a year and a half already.
Here is an interesting observation. Canon and Nikon have gone head to head for as long as digital cameras have been around. Both companies came out with sub-$1000 DSLR cameras at almost exactly the same time. Both companies have similar cameras at every level in the DSLR market. There is not a clear winner at any level between Canon and Nikon. The winner is whoever the camera buyer deems to be the winner. If the buyer is a Nikon buyer, normally they will stick with Nikon, and vise versa for Canon. A few photographers have crossed the line one way or the other, but it is fairly uncommon.
So, today, if you are first time DSLR buyer, which one do you choose?
The writer was in this very predicament when the D40 and the Canon Rebel 300D came out. Ready to buy the first DSLR. Read all the forum posts. Got confused by the Canon-Nikon mud slinging and name calling (I read the forum posts now just for amusement).
Yours truly came down on the Canon side back then. Now, with the same decision, considering the Nikon D3000 and the Canon Rebel XSi 450D, the decision would be in favor of Nikon... for only one reason. It is not because I have been dissatisfied with my Canon gear.. not at all. The decision would be based solely on the age of the cameras; the Nikon is newer and actually costs a few dollars less. But either one will be excellent choices. And either one will give you awesome pictures. And both will be replaced by newer models in the very near future.
Go ahead and read the forum posts. But be prepared to be spammed by some very adamant fans of either Canon or Nikon. It's kind of like going to a football game in the New York Giants stadium if they are playing the Jets. It will be difficult to get an unbiased opinion because they are cross-town rivals.

Rucksack camera bags are popular for many reasons including comfort, security and their ability to disguise themselves as everyday baggage that doesn't have a cargo of expensive photographic equipment. Compared to the more traditional shoulder bag, the rucksack still lags far behind when it comes to allowing the wearer quick access to the equipment inside the bag.
With a Lowepro Slingshot 300 AW or one of its siblings however, it's a completely different story...
The SlingShot 300 AW is the largest of the SlingShot family and it's probably just as well because it's not a small bag by any means. Able to carry a 'professional' camera body (or a camera body with a grip) as well 3 to 4 lenses, accessories and other non-photographic kit, the 300 model is probably the most capacious bag you'd want to carry with a single shoulder strap. Saying that, I've seen some more traditional shoulder sling bags (think Billingham) that are probably just as sizeable.
Some of the features of the bag include:

- Separate compartment for accessories or non-photographic paraphernalia
- Single padded shoulder strap and a padded waist belt
- Built-in rain hood

- Small compartment on front of the bag for accessories
- Built-in memory card pouches
Now, there are plenty of bags that can carry just as much as the SlingShot 300, but the main advantage of this bag is the way in which it can be swung from the wearer's back, under the left arm and then sit just under chest level. With the side access panel then facing up at the wearer, there's no longer any need to take the bag off before getting access to your equipment. From this position, the bag also serves as a support platform to rest elbows upon.
Having a side access panel as opposed to the more traditional front opening, I feel, makes it more difficult for someone to remove the contents from the rucksack without the wearers knowledge. With potentially thousands of pounds worth of equipment, my preference is to keep it in sight or at least feel confident about where it should be and for me this is a great feature that offers such reassurance. The contemporary single shoulder strap design also helps to make the bag look less like a camera bag and therefore is less likely to attract unwanted attention.
There are two clips on the front of the bag that, when fastened, restrict how far the side panel can open. As well as being an additional security feature, these help prevent your equipment from spilling out onto the floor should you be in a hurry and over enthusiastically unzip the panel.
Whilst the bag is perfectly comfortable in use, it can become uncomfortable when laden due to the single shoulder strap. Extended periods of use may well need to be broken up, but with lighter loads it's much less of an issue. It is possible to carry the bag across the other shoulder instead, but this is not what the bag was designed to do, feels slightly awkward and you lose the ability to swing the bag to get at your equipment.
To protect your equipment, there's plenty of padding in the lower compartment which can be customised thanks to the dividers being attached to the sides of the bag by Velcro. I was able to carry my Canon EF 70-200 f/4 IS lens mounted onto my Canon EOS 40D together with additional lenses and flashgun without any problems.
Protection from rain is provided with a built-in rain cover which stows neatly away when not in use.
For those wanting to carry a tripod with them, there are SlipLock loops on the front of the bag positioned to allow one to be slotted through vertically. Now, the bag is quite deep and with a tripod carried in this manner you really need to be careful you don't hit people with it as you turn.
Conclusion
There is a lot to like about this bag and for those photographers who want to be able to switch from 'carry mode' to 'shoot mode' in as little time as possible this is a great choice. The bag is constructed using high quality materials and feels like it's built to last . There's plenty of room for a variety of photographic equipment and should hold enough to last through an entire day of shooting if not longer.
The sling design is both its killer feature and Achilles Heel. For photographers likely to be carrying heavy equipment for an extended periods of more than a few hours at a time then the single shoulder strap could become uncomfortable.
For everyone else or for shorter periods of use, the Lowepro SlingShot 300 AW is a high quality, spacious portable storage solution that should serve its purpose very well.

What is an easy way to compress video off of a Kodak EasyShare Digital Camera?
I want to be able to e-mail them. What program do I need. They come off of the camera at 20MB and I can't get them much smaller. I am using a PC.
Video and audio formats are not compression friendly.
There are few things you can try/do.
1) encode the video into another format, reviews state it is in quicktime format, mpeg4. you might want to try converting it to divx. The file will still be pretty large, probably still too large to email whole.
2) which brings us to option 2, use winrar (or similar) to split the file into about 2MB files and send each file individually. The recipient will need winrar also to put the files back together.
3) find a file hosting site where you can upload, and email the recipient the URL and have them download it
4) turn your computer into an ftp server and email the ip address:port, and login credentials (if not anonymous) to the recipient.

Once all your files are uploaded, just wipe the camera card clean and start over again. How's that for easy and simple?

Are there different models of the Canon Digital Rebel XTi?
I'm not a professional photographer, but I know someone who is trying to learn about photography and considering a Canon Digital Rebel. We see the Rebel advertised slightly different from one place to the next, some saying it is 400D or EOS or XTi (sorry, not familiar with the terminology yet) and some as a combination of those terms. Are there different models of the camera or is there just really one model? Thanks for any suggestions.
Rebel XTi(Sold in America) is the same version as the EOS 400D(which is sold in Europe).
It has 10.1 Mega Pixels and is the updated version of the Rebel XT (EOS 350D).
Its an Excellent Camera to learn with. But I wouldn't recommend the Kit Lens that comes with it. Better to buy the body, and get a better lens separately.

im trying to rig up a wireless battery powered video camera that will send the video back to my PC, ive tried looking online, but all i can find is cameras that a plug in and connect directly to a server. my other option is running it with i wireless USB hub and rigging up a way to battery power that, im not above doing this entire project from scratch, any suggestions?
