problem with my audio transmitter?
I have a sony utx-b1 transmitter that I am trying to use as an audio feed to my camcorder. The left speaker seems to be picking up the signal perfectly, but the sound from the right is extremely low and distorted. I'm not sure if it is the transmitter or the camera. Could somebody help?
My guess it is a cable problem or dirty connectors. Did it work previously? If so, clean the connectors with alcohol and q-tips and a paper towel. Or use spray cleaner:

This stuff is great for audio connectors.
If the connectors are clean, then you may have a bad cable.
That is a great pro transmitter, so I doubt it is at fault.

Product marketers always try to create an image that if you do not buy the latest model, you are behind the times. The illusion that they create is the old product is not nearly as good a value as the new one.
Let's take a hard look at two Garmin Nuvi GPS units, the discontinued Nuvi 760 and the new Nuvi 1200.
As of the date this article was written, the two units were both selling on Amazon for $199.99 so we don't have to compensate for the price. Keep in mind that the Garmin list price for the Nuvi 1200 is $199.99 and for the Nuvi 760 it is $499.99.
The Nuvi 1200 has a 3.5 inch diagonal display compared to the 4.3 inch diagonal display (widescreen) on the Nuvi 760. The Nuvi 1200 is 0.6 inches thick versus 0.8 inches for the Nuvi 760. The wide screen size and the thicker case make the Nuvi 760 weigh 6.2 ounces versus the Nuvi 1200 weight of 4.0 ounces. The Nuvi 760 wins on display size but loses on weight which is to be expected for a wide screen versus a standard screen GPS.
Both these units speak street names which is the most important feature to look for in an automotive GPS.
The Nuvi 760 comes with maps of North America where the Nuvi 1200 is limited to maps of the lower 48 states. The Nuvi 1200 holds 1000 waypoints and the Nuvi 760 holds 500. However, the Nuvi 760 can remember 10 routes, and the Nuvi 1200 does not remember routes.
Both units are MSN® Direct compatible and both are FM traffic compatible, but the Nuvi 760 has a built in FM traffic receiver and a subscription to FM traffic updates. This is an expensive feature on Garmin units.
The Nuvi 760 has speed limit notification and surprisingly, the newer Nuvi 1200 does not. They both have a picture viewer, but there the Nuvi 760 wins for accessory features. It has an MP3 player, an audio book player, and headphone jack/audio line-out. The Nuvi 1200 does not have these features.
A major advantage the Nuvi 760 has over the Nuvi 1200 is the FM transmitter in the 760 allows you to listen to the audio output from the Nuvi 760 through your car stereo. What an improvement in sound quality!
The Nuvi 760 also has Bluetooth® wireless technology so you can use your Bluetooth® enabled cell phone for hands-free calling. Another major plus for the Nuvi 760!
The Nuvi 1200 has ecoRoute™ which calculates a more fuel-efficient route. It also has enhanced pedestrian navigation capabilities. Download optional cityXplorer™ content to help you navigate city public transit. These are new applications released by Garmin since the Nuvi 760 was developed.
When you add up the widescreen for better viewing, Bluetooth® for hands free calling, the FM transmitter for better audio, the FM traffic receiver plus traffic subscription, the speed limit display, the MP3 player, the audio book player, and the other features included in the Nuvi 760, the Nuvi 760 is the better GPS for the money.
