Stop submitting to the search engines and get more traffic

Scott Morgan - neurocyber search engine optimisation

Should you continually submit your web sites url to the many search engines in order to remain in their indexes?

Well there's no need to keep on resubmitting just for the sake of it. Some people think they need to resubmit their site to 100,000 search engines a week else loose their tenable search engine positions

While resubmitting your site to some search engines will not hurt your ranking, resubmitting to certain other engines, such as Google, can actually hurt your ranking. The reason being that these engines tend to place more relevancy on pages that the spiders find themselves as well as those that have been in their index for a length of time

So if you're thinking of making frequent submission's in the hope of maintaining high search engine positions you're putting your self at a disadvantage, a different tactic is needed......

Back to basics

The cornerstone of good search engine prominence is to have a site that is optimised for staying power. This means having a site that has the fundamentals in place i.e. rich content, good amount of pages, keywords that will bring you the most visitors for the theme of your site, optimum use of title tags, meta tags, h1 tags, keyword density, alt tags and a good supply of links pointing to your site

While all the above points are important it's the links (and the amount of them) pointing towards your site that will help make tiresome search engine resubmission's a thing of the past

The reason for this stems from the fact that when you have other web sites linking to your site you are creating other paths by which the search engine spiders/robots can find your site and index or re-index your site and its content

As long as the web sites that link to you are being spidered then your site in turn will be spidered. You need to have at least one link that the robots can find otherwise you'll end up getting dropped from important search engine indexes, to ensure that you will never be missed in a robot crawl you need plenty of inbound links

Having lots of links pointing towards your site should be part of your long term promotional strategy anyway. This will not only make resubmission's a thing of the past but will also increase your link popularity, creating the potential for increased search engine positions. Moreover, all these sites linking to you will send a steady stream of visitors to your site in their own right

Your time will certainly be better spent if you use it to build links rather than spending it on repetitive and unnecessary search engine resubmission's

A point worth mentioning when deciding who you should link to is to think in terms of your visitor, will the link add value to their experience of your site. Some people will not link with you if they think your site even slightly competes with theirs. However, if sites match each others theme then the search engines will like it and so will the people who visit either site. I know when I swap links with a competing site I'm getting long term benefits including not having to engage in continual search engine resubmission's

Link building
