What is the best/most advanced/highly featured Casio watch available in the U.S. market?
I have the Casio Pathfinder PAW-1300G, limited edition Winter Wave, which retails for $330-$750 depending on location. It has an atomic clock, altimeter, barometer, thermometer, digital compass, and is solar-powered with world time in all time zones.

Is there something BETTER out there that I can get? I'm willing to spend a lot more if I can get an even nicer watch than this one. I'm going for technological use/functionality over style and by nice I don't mean a diamond-encrusted Rolex or Patek.
Note: I did not make the forum post linked to above, but I thought it would be useful to anyone answering this question.

What is the best running GPS watch? With all of the great new GPS enabled sports watches available today, that is a very difficult question to answer. Maybe a better question to ask is what are some of the most popular GPS sports watches on the market today?
First, why would anyone pay upwards of $500 (gulp) for what amounts to a fancy wrist watch? Well, these "fancy wrist timepieces are incredibly technology-packed devices that use the Global Positioning System (GPS), a network of 24 satellites that orbit the earth and forms a global navigation system. Developed and owned by the United States, civilian access was granted in the mid 1980's, and is often used for civilian navigation purposes.
If you are a runner of jogger, a portable Global Positioning System on your wrist can pinpoint your location within 3 meters, and help you develop timed courses, set (and meet) exercise goals and gather and plot data for performance monitoring.
If you like to hike deep into the backwoods, a GPS watch can be an invaluable survival tool, as you can coordinate your exact location with downloaded maps of trails, etc. Getting lost in bad weather can become a thing of the past with one of these high-tech helpers. Â
Suunto X9i
The Suunto X91 sells for around $350, and is an incredibly technology-packed work of modern sports art.
Suunto, a Finnish - based company, has over 70 years experience with personal directional devices, and is a leader in the modern computer-based portable navigation sector.
The X9i is a fully featured GPS watch and comes with these features;
- Altimeter
- Barometer
- Chronograph
- Digital Compass
- Thermometer
- Adjustable Declination
- Alarms for time and altitude
The X9i also interfaces with digital maps, can track waypoints along your route and tracks distance, speed and altitude and weather.You can upload maps or Google Earth so you'll always have your trail map with you.
These are just a few of the benefits of the Suuntp X9i - and for the price, I think it's a real bargain.
Garmin Forerunner 405
Here's another super high-performance GPS sports watch which is priced a little lower than the Suunto, and has a few less features as well. The Garmin is more geared towards running, jogging and other more urban sports, as it does not allow maps to be downloaded to memory (for hiking). Take a look at what the Garmin Forerunner 405 includes;
- Heart Rate Monitor (optional)
- Computer synch
- Virtual Partner
- Advanced Workouts (Custom, goal-orientated exercise)
- Pace Alert (gives alarm if your pace changes)
- Time/distance alert (alarms when goals are met)
Even though it has fewer features than the X9i, the 405 is cheaper, and is still a high-quality GPS watch that will serve well.
